Decanter 91: One quarter each of Carignan, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah. There’s a dab of blackcurrant jelly to the unctuous strawberry and Victoria plum fruit, it’s very ripe indeed. The acidity is balanced, it sticks out a little bit, but it needs it. Generous and rich, reminiscent of Gigondas in fruit. Rounded, gently muscular tannins. A good Cairanne in this very hot vintag
Livingston, Rhone Report 4 Sterne: dark red; the bouquet is nicely oily, well together, presents the style, elegance of Cairanne in its neatly sweet fullness, carries a blackcurrant centre. There are hints of nutshells from the oak, and it will evolve well. The palate is suave from the off, tasty, wholesome, caresses well, with menthol and blueberry fruit in good tandem. The finish is well rounded. Texture is a high card here, so it will give pleasure, and ease of access. It’s well orchestrated, authentic Cairanne, down to the notes of black olives on the aftertaste.
